New Food Security Course Features Community-Based Experiential Learning

The UBC Faculty of Land and Food Systems has partnered with the Ustlahn’s Social Society to offer a new community-based experiential learning (CBEL) field course. The course will facilitate training in interdisciplinary and interprofessional CBEL to students interested in working with Aboriginal people through a community-centered experience.

From July 7-10, the UBC Dentistry student – along with 23 other volunteers – will be donating his time and skills to the people of the Penelakut First Nation.

This past July [2010], dental and dental hygiene students, alumni and faculty of UBC Dentistry, along with community dentists and other volunteers, donated their time and professional skills to the people of Penelakut First Nation. The community volunteer clinic took place over a weekend on Kuper Island, a small, 8.66-square-kilometre island located east of Chemainus, BC, a town on Vancouver Island.
