NOTICE: Program Bookings and Rentals are not being accepted at this time.
The Sty-Wet-Tan Great Hall is a dramatic 3,600 square foot multi-purpose space, and among its many outstanding architectural features are four houseposts and two supporting roof beams, all carved by noted Northwest Coast artists, plus other exceptional artworks. It contains a spring dance floor, a stage area, and is adjoined by a fully equipped kitchen. A large foyer graces its entrance. When not in use by UBC Indigenous programs, the Sty-Wet-Tan Great Hall is available for rent.
Outdoors, the Longhouse is situated in the University’s Old Arboretum where many unique specimens of trees provide shade to the large deck — perfect for a summertime salmon barbeque. This marvellous hall is suitable for receptions, performances, workshops, conferences, seminars, feasts and banquets.
The Longhouse is fully wheelchair accessible and is located next to the Fraser River parkade, providing easy access to the Great Hall.
Sty-Wet-Tan is a hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ or Musqueam term, meaning spirit of the west wind.
The First Nations House of Learning administers the First Nations Longhouse, including bookings and rentals of Sty-Wet-Tan Great Hall.
Revenue from rentals directly supports the maintenance of the building’s infrastructure and Indigenous academic programming.
