Community-Based Research

Research projects developed in collaboration with Indigenous communities and organizations constitute an especially important direction. Throughout the world Indigenous communities in the past have been subjected to extractive research practices over which they have had little or no control, and in some places, those practices continue today. Researchers at UBC have long been working to define new practices that avoid these abuses, and are continuing to develop these approaches in line with emerging national and international standards. Collaborative practices go much farther, beginning with the needs and aspirations of communities and sharing with communities their direction and control. Here you will find a collection of some of these partnerships.
